Our Minister

Reverend DC Fortune grew up in Windsor, Maine.  A graduate of Erskine Academy, he attended the University of Maine at Farmington, where he founded one of the earliest gay/straight alliances for students at UMF.

Reverend Fortune discovered Unitarian Universalism in the early 1990s at the Universalist Unitarian Church in Waterville.  He later attended congregations in Portland, Ellsworth, and Belfast, where he was ordained in 2015. He trained for the ministry at Bangor Theological Seminary and Andover Newton Theological School in Boston, from which he graduated in 2014. He completed a postgraduate internship in Fremont, California, and then served congregations in suburban Saint Louis, southern New Jersey, and central Pennsylvania.

Reverend Fortune serves the Unitarian Universalist denomination on the national level as a member of the Ministerial Fellowship Committee and of the General Assembly Planning Committee.

Reverend Fortune has been active in progressive and queer politics since the 1980s and is passionate about social justice work. Before becoming a minister, he was a newspaper reporter, a radio disc jockey, a union sheet metal worker, a bus driver, and he worked a variety of jobs in construction.  His personal interests include fishing Maine’s brooks and streams, making art with resin, and creating interesting knives and swords in his home forge.
